正面描述 Facing bust of Duke Frederick William II, depicted with long flowing hair, a moustache, and a small beard, wearing armour with a lace cravat and a decorative chain at the collar. The effigy is rendered in high relief in the Baroque portrait style typical of mid-17th-century German commemorative coinage. The bust is centrally positioned within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend reads in Latin abbreviation, identifying the duke by name and his ducal titles.

附加信息

Frederick William II of Saxe-Altenburg died in 1669 without a male heir, extinguishing the Altenburg line and triggering the partition of the duchy among the three surviving Ernestine branches — Saxe-Gotha, Saxe-Coburg, and Saxe-Weimar. Memorial coinage was a well-established Ernestine tradition, but this issue marks something final: the last numismatic product of a distinct territorial identity that would not be reconstituted. KM#454 is among the heavier pieces produced for this memorial series, reflecting the ceremonial rather than circulatory intent behind the striking.
