| Beschrijving voorzijde | Equestrian portrait of Frederick August I depicted in three-quarter view, the Elector shown as a crowned and armored ruler astride a rearing horse facing right, wearing a flowing mantle over his cuirass. The horse is rendered in bold high relief with expressive musculature and a wind-swept tail. Beneath the horse's hooves, a crowned cartouche bearing the electoral arms of Saxony serves as a ground element. The circular Latin legend surrounding the design proclaims his titles as King of Poland, Duke of Saxony, and Imperial Vicar. The composition is executed in the vigorous Baroque equestrian tradition characteristic of early eighteenth-century Saxon coinage. |
