Additional information

Regensburg occupied a peculiar constitutional position in the Holy Roman Empire — as host city of the Immerwährender Reichstag, the permanently sitting Imperial Diet from 1663 onward, it maintained mint rights partly as a matter of civic prestige among the assembled delegations. By 1754 that Diet had become largely ceremonial, its deliberations famously slow, but the city continued striking silver on the strength of privileges granted centuries earlier. The KM#369 quarter thaler belongs to a late run of Regensburg civic coinage produced when the city's financial autonomy was already quietly eroding under Bavarian and Habsburg pressure.
