Struck at the precise moment the Holy Roman Empire was fracturing. The 1619–1620 date range aligns directly with the opening of the Thirty Years' War — the Bohemian revolt, the deposition of Ferdinand II, and the brief reign of Frederick V as the "Winter King." Frankfurt, sitting at the geographic and commercial heart of the Empire, had every reason to assert its minting authority during the imperial succession crisis. Coinage from free imperial cities during this window often served as much a political statement of autonomy as a medium of exchange.
The weight places this firmly in the Kipper und Wipper period's shadow — though at 6.94g this piece appears to have been struck to honest weight, before the widespread debasement of 1621–22 fully took hold.
