Obverse description Central field depicts the fortified city gate of Lüneburg, rendered in a detailed late-medieval heraldic style, showing a towered gatehouse with crenellated battlements flanked by two smaller turrets, all set upon a coursed masonry base with a lion passant visible at the base of the central tower. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The circular legend reading MONETA*NOVA*CIVITA*LVNEBVR (New Coin of the City of Lüneburg) runs along the outer rim, separated from the central device by the beaded border.
