| Opis awersu | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic legend in bold Naskh script, surmounted by an arched or pointed cartouche at the top of the flan containing additional Arabic lettering. The inscription names Timur (Tamerlane) as the issuing authority while acknowledging the nominal suzerainty of the Chaghatayid Khan Mahmud Khan, following Timurid practice of legitimizing coinage through the reigning Mongol figurehead. The field is densely filled with calligraphic text arranged in horizontal registers, with dotted diacritical marks visible throughout. The flan is irregular and slightly uneven at the edges, characteristic of hand-hammered medieval Islamic coinage. |
