1/4 Tanga - Carlos I Lisboa mint

The quarter tanga was struck in Lisbon for Portuguese India — specifically for circulation in Goa, Daman, and Diu — at a time when those enclaves were increasingly isolated economic oddities clinging to the subcontinent. Lisbon-struck issues for this colonial series were produced because the local Goa mint lacked consistent capacity for bronze coinage at scale. The KM#15 type replaced an earlier series that had suffered chronic flan irregularities.

Gomes catalogues this issue tightly under C1 03, distinguishing it from Nova Goa mint strikings by die characteristics rather than any mint mark.
