Obverse description Square cast tin coin displaying a deeply recessed central square depression — characteristic of the traditional Malay hat money (wang tembeling) format — surrounded by a broad flat border decorated in low relief with scrolling floral and foliate arabesque ornament, including stylised blossoms at the corners and sinuous vine motifs along each side. The casting sprues and surface textures typical of hand-cast tin coinage are visible in the field. A small casting hole pierces the right side of the piece, a characteristic feature of this coin type.
