| Obverse description | Half-length effigy of Sigismund III Vasa facing right, crowned and robed in armor with an elaborate lace collar, holding an orb in his left hand and a sword raised in his right. The king wears a closed royal crown surmounted by a cross. The portrait is rendered in high relief in the late Renaissance manner characteristic of Polish royal coinage. A continuous Latin legend surrounds the effigy within a beaded border: SIG•III•D•G•REX•POL•ET•SVEC•M•D•L•R•P (Sigismundus III, by the Grace of God King of Poland and Sweden, Grand Duke of Lithuania, Ruler of Prussia). |
