August III inherited the Polish throne in 1733 only after a contested election and direct Saxon military intervention — Stanisław Leszczyński had been elected by the majority of the szlachta, but Russian and Austrian backing overrode the vote. The quarter talar fractions struck at Dresden during his early reign were a product of Saxon monetary infrastructure pressed into Polish service, the Albertine mint supplying what Warsaw and Kraków could not.
