The Regency of Algiers issued this quarter sultani during its final years as an Ottoman vassal state — France invaded in June 1830, and the dey Hussein surrendered within weeks. Coins struck across this bracket span both sides of that rupture, meaning examples from the later end of the date range were produced under a political authority already in the process of ceasing to exist. French forces captured the Algiers mint and its contents almost immediately upon entering the city.
