| Obverse description | Central field bears the tughra-style Arabic inscription of Sultan Mahmud II, reading 'Sultan Mahmud' in flowing calligraphic script. The legends are contained within a beaded inner circle, itself surrounded by a raised beaded border along the coin's periphery. The script is executed in the Ottoman Arabic style characteristic of Algerian regency coinage of the period. |
