Obverse description Central device consists of the crowned civic coat of arms of Nijmegen, depicting a double-headed eagle with a small inescutcheon bearing a lion on its chest. The arms are rendered in a compact, stylized heraldic manner typical of late sixteenth-century Low Countries municipal coinage. A circular legend in Latin capitals runs between two beaded borders enclosing the central device, identifying the issuing authority.
