| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborately interlaced crowned royal cipher of Landgrave Louis X of Hesse-Darmstadt, formed by a large Gothic 'L' surmounted by a small 'x' and intertwined with decorative foliate flourishes. A princely crown rises above the monogram. The coin has no surrounding legend; the entire design consists of the ornate cipher set against a plain copper field, framed by a fine toothed border around the rim. |
