Beschrijving voorzijde Central field displays the heraldic harpy — the emblematic charge of the Cirksena dynasty — depicted with spread wings and facing to the right, set within an oval cartouche or shield. The harpy, a crowned female-headed eagle, serves as the principal arms of the ruling House of Cirksena of East Frisia. A Latin legend encircles the central device, recording the abbreviated titles and name of the issuing prince. The overall design is executed in the coarse, low-relief style typical of small billon coinage of the early eighteenth century.

Aanvullende informatie

George Albert ruled East Frisia during a period of chronic fiscal strain, and the small billon coinage of his reign reflects exactly that — debased alloys stretched to cover obligations the county could not otherwise meet. East Frisia was absorbed into Prussia in 1744, just three decades after this piece was struck, ending the county's independent minting authority entirely.
