Clemens August of Bavaria held five ecclesiastical territories simultaneously — Cologne, Münster, Paderborn, Osnabrück, and the Grand Mastership of the Teutonic Order — making him one of the most powerful prince-bishops in 18th-century German history. This copper fraction served the working economy of his Cologne electorate during a reign defined more by extravagant court life at Augustusburg than by fiscal discipline. The Cologne archbishopric's small copper issues of this period are routinely underrepresented in collections despite a 24-year production window, partly because they circulated hard in urban markets and survived poorly.
