| Beschrijving keerzijde | A Celticized horse is depicted in a prancing attitude facing right, rendered with bold, schematic musculature in the native British Celtic style. A stylized branch or plant motif appears above the horse's back in the upper field, without the additional pellet found on related die varieties. The abbreviated royal legend CVN (for Cunobelin) is inscribed below the horse in Latin characters. The overall composition is dynamic and compact, making effective use of the small, irregularly shaped flan. The design reflects the influence of Gallo-Belgic prototypes adapted to the local Catuvellaunian tradition. |

Cunobeline ruled the Catuvellauni from their capital at Camulodunum — modern Colchester — and his coinage represents the most developed native British numismatic tradition before the Claudian invasion of 43 AD. The 'Trinovantian U' classification reflects his control over the formerly independent Trinovantes, absorbed into his kingdom sometime around the turn of the first century. Van Arsdell 1927 is among the scarcer quarter stater types in the Cunobeline series, with find distributions clustering heavily in Essex and Hertfordshire.
