Gibraltar has issued quarter sovereigns under royal warrant since 1999, occupying a quirky jurisdictional space — the coins are legal tender in Gibraltar but not in the United Kingdom, despite bearing the monarch's effigy and matching the sovereign's traditional 22-carat alloy.
