The circumferential legend DEFENDING BRITAIN'S SKIES FOR ONE HUNDRED YEARS arcs around the upper portion of the rim, while the denomination inscription · QUARTER SOVEREIGN · appears along the lower rim, all separated from the central design by a beaded border.
