| 裏面の説明 | The classic Benedetto Pistrucci-inspired design depicting an armoured St. George on horseback to the right, his lance having broken, wielding the remaining shaft to slay a writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves. The equestrian group is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the horse's musculature, St. George's helmet and billowing cloak, and the vanquished dragon. The motto of the Order of the Garter, HONI·SOIT·QUI·MAL·Y·PENSE, encircles the central device in the border, with the engraver's initials B.P. appearing in the lower field. The composition faithfully perpetuates the sovereign reverse tradition established in 1817. |

The quarter sovereign was revived by the Royal Mint in 2009 after a century-long absence, and the Garter-type reverse — introduced to mark the 650th anniversary of the Order of the Garter in 2015 — replaced the earlier crowned shield design. The 5th portrait of Elizabeth II, by Jody Clark, was the first effigy of the monarch produced by a Royal Mint engraver since Mary Gillick's original 1953 design; all intervening portraits had been commissioned from outside sculptors.
