Beschrijving keerzijde Three-quarter facing portrait of Sir Winston Churchill depicted in characteristic wartime attire, cigar in hand and raising his right hand in the famous V for Victory gesture. The figure is rendered in bold relief, conveying authority and resolve. The arc legend SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL · 1874-1965 curves along the upper periphery, with the celebrated phrase WE SHALL NEVER SURRENDER inscribed beneath it, following the contour of the design. A fine beaded inner rim frames the composition.

Aanvullende informatie

Churchill's connection to Gibraltar runs deeper than wartime symbolism. He visited the Rock in 1943 en route to North Africa, and the territory's strategic survival during the Siege of Gibraltar — which Churchill actively directed resupply efforts to sustain — made it a cause he considered personally vital. The quarter sovereign format revives a denomination that had effectively disappeared from British coinage after 1918, making its modern iterations in Gibraltar something of a numismatic anomaly rather than a continuation of any unbroken tradition.
