Issued to mark Charles III's accession following the death of Elizabeth II in September 2022, Gibraltar's Crown dependency status allows it to produce legal tender coinage independently of the Royal Mint. The King's Accession issues appeared with unusual speed — Gibraltar's minting arrangements with Pobjoy and later other private minters have historically allowed faster turnaround on commemorative releases than the Royal Mint typically manages.
