| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse bears Benedetto Pistrucci's celebrated and enduring depiction of Saint George, helmeted and semi-draped, mounted on a rearing horse and thrusting a broken lance downward into a writhing dragon beneath the horse's hooves. The composition, first introduced on the sovereign in 1817, fills the field with vigorous neoclassical energy, the rider's cloak billowing dramatically behind him.
