Reverse description A tall patriarchal cross or cross-on-steps motif occupies the center of the reverse field, rendered in a simplified barbarous style. Two six-pointed stars flank the cross in the lower field, one to the left and one to the right, serving as the principal decorative elements characteristic of this Lombard issue. A small pellet or globule appears below the cross near the base. The entire design is contained within a beaded or dotted border. The reverse is devoid of legend, consistent with Lombard imitative quarter-siliquae struck in the name of Justinian I.
