The monogram, incorporating the letters of THEODERICVS, is rendered in the characteristic late antique cipher style and is surrounded by a retrograde or garbled Latin legend reading MINVIT - LROMAD, a corrupted rendering of INVICTA ROMA ('Unconquered Rome').
