The date is divided to either side of the shield at mid-field. The upper legend ·BAILIWICK·OF·JERSEY· arcs around the top periphery, while the denomination ONE·FOURTH·OF·A·SHILLING curves along the bottom, all separated by raised dot stops. The design was engraved by George Kruger Gray and the rim is bounded by a beaded border. |

Jersey's adoption of nickel brass for this small-denomination issue reflected postwar metal economics across British Crown Dependencies, where cupronickel and nickel brass displaced bronze throughout the 1950s. The 1st portrait of Elizabeth II used here — Gillick's effigy — was already being phased out on UK coinage by the early 1960s, making this short four-year run a transitional type in the island's decimal-adjacent shilling system.
