| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned and draped bust of King George V, engraved by Percy Metcalfe, occupying the central field. The king wears the Imperial State Crown and robes of state with ermine trim visible at the shoulder. The circumferential legend reads GEORGE V KING EMPEROR in raised Latin characters, distributed to the left and right of the effigy. The portrait is rendered in high relief with careful attention to facial detail and regalia. The toothed border encircles the entire design. |

Mauritius quarter rupees of this period were struck at the Royal Mint in London, as the island's colonial administration had no local minting capacity. The 1934–1936 window coincides with a sustained depression in the global sugar market, which devastated the Mauritian economy and sharply reduced government revenues — yet silver coinage continued to be issued, partly to maintain confidence in the colonial monetary system during a period of serious labor unrest on the island's plantations.
