Pakistan's first coinage series was struck before the country had established its own mint — production was contracted to the Royal Mint in London and the Bombay Mint, both of which supplied pieces bearing the new nation's identity while Partition was still reshaping the subcontinent. The crescent orientation varieties that emerged across this series are a direct consequence of multi-facility production with inconsistent die alignment protocols.
The 1948 issues are considerably scarcer than later dates in this type, reflecting the logistical disruption of standing up an entirely new monetary authority from scratch in the months immediately following independence.
