Ahmad Shah Bahadur was the Mughal emperor whose reign (1748–1754) coincided with the empire's effective collapse as a political force. The Arcot mint operated under the Nawabs of Arcot, who by this period held real power in the Carnatic while nominally issuing coinage in the emperor's name — a fiction of imperial authority that suited both parties. The dates 1750–1752 fall squarely within the period of intense Anglo-French proxy conflict in the Carnatic, with Clive's early military actions reshaping who actually controlled the region's revenues and mints.
