Obverse description The Sarnath Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem of India, is depicted in high relief at the centre of the obverse field, showing three lions rampant upon an abacus adorned with the Dharma Chakra (wheel) flanked by a bull and a horse in profile. The circular legend 'GOVERNMENT . OF . INDIA' runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin characters, with a five-pointed star positioned at the base, completing the legend below the emblem.
