The surrounding legend in Latin reads MO : AVREA · METROPOL · GAND · FLAND ·, identifying this as the gold coinage of the metropolis of Ghent in Flanders. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the edges, characteristic of hammered gold coinage of this period. |
