| Obverse description | Central field bears a multi-line Arabic inscription in raised relief, reading the name and titles of Sultan Barghash bin Said, Sultan of Zanzibar, invoking divine blessing. The inscription is arranged across five lines and occupies the majority of the coin's face. A beaded border encircles the entire design. The calligraphy is rendered in a bold Naskh style characteristic of East African Islamic coinage of the late 19th century. |
