Obverse description Cuirassed bust of Frederick II (Frederick the Great) facing right, wearing the ribbon and star of the Order of the Black Eagle across the chest. The effigy is rendered in a formal Baroque portrait style with detailed armour engraving. A semicircular Latin legend arcs around the upper periphery of the coin, with the field otherwise plain.

Reverse description The Prussian black eagle displayed, surmounting an ornate baroque heraldic shield bearing the quartered arms of Prussia, the whole ensemble crowned by a royal crown above. Flanking the central device are palm and laurel branches. The denomination legend '4 EINEN R: THALER' arcs along the upper periphery, while the date is presented in the exergue divided by the mint letter 'A', reading '17 A 50'.
