Obverse description Central field displays the fractional denomination '1/4' in large numerals, enclosed within an open wreath composed of laurel or oak branches tied at the base. The date 1862 appears in the lower exergual area beneath the wreath. The circular legend surrounding the design reads ESTADO LIBRE DE SAN LUIS POTOSI, punctuated by a decorative stop, all in raised Latin lettering. The overall design is characteristic of the provincial copper coinage issued by the free state of San Luis Potosí during the Mexican Republic period.
