Obverse description Central device features two facing cornucopiae crossed in saltire, their mouths spilling abundance, flanked by a liberty cap or similar emblematic element. The design is rendered in low relief on a plain field characteristic of early Mexican state coinage. The circular legend reads EST. D. SONORA. UNA. CUART., identifying the issuing state and denomination, distributed around the periphery. The engraving style is consistent with provincial Mexican copper coinage of the early republican period, showing modest die workmanship. Strike quality is typical of the Hermosillo Mint output for this series.
