Obverse description A rampant lion passant guardant facing left, depicted in relief at the centre of the field, representing the Kingdom of León. The figure is rendered in the crude, bold style typical of late colonial hammered coinage. No legend or inscription is present on this face. The coin is bordered by a raised milled or rope-like edge, characteristic of the Potosí mint's quarter-real production.
