| Obverse description | Central design features three volcanic peaks, the tallest and central volcano actively emitting a plume of smoke, rendered in fine relief against a plain field. A radiant sun with stylized rays rises above the erupting cone in the upper field. A horizontal line separates the mountain range from the date below, with the four-digit date inscribed in large numerals across the lower field. The mintmark 'H' for Heaton and Sons, Birmingham, appears centered beneath the date. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border running along the coin's circumference. |

| Reverse description | The denomination '1/4 REAL' is prominently displayed in the central field, with the word 'NIQUEL' inscribed below, indicating the coin's metallic composition. The central legend is framed by a wreath of laurel branches tied at the base, with the sprays extending upward on either side and crossing at the bottom. Five six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc along the lower portion of the field, between the wreath ends and the beaded border. The design is enclosed within a beaded border consistent with the obverse. |
