Descrizione del dritto	The field bears the denomination spelled out in two lines at center: UN / CUARTO, rendered in bold raised lettering. A circular legend reading REPUBLI. DEL ECUADOR surrounds the upper portion of the field, with the mint name QUITO inscribed along the lower rim. The design is entirely typographic, with no figurative imagery, and is bordered by a reeded rim.

Descrizione del rovescio	The central device depicts a crenellated castle tower rising from a volcanic mound or hill, atop which perches a condor with wings spread. Seven six-pointed stars are arranged in an arc around the upper periphery of the field. Below the central device, the date and assayer initials appear: M. 1842 . V, with a letter beneath the castle tower denoting a variety identifier. The whole is contained within a reeded border.
