Obverse description Central device depicts a stylized castle or fortification tower surmounted by a five-pointed star, flanked on either side by the assayer initial 'P', with the date '18[4]0' inscribed in the lower field beneath the central motif. The coin is struck on an irregular flan with a beaded border encircling the design. The overall style reflects the crudely struck macuquina-influenced coinage characteristic of provincial Argentine issues of the period.
