Additional information

Husayn bin Ali had himself proclaimed King of the Hejaz in 1916 following the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule, a rebellion he launched in direct coordination with the British, who promised Arab independence in exchange for military cooperation. This bronze fractional issue was struck in 1923, just two years before Ibn Saud's Wahhabi forces swept out of Najd and dismantled the Hashemite kingdom entirely. Husayn abdicated in October 1924 under military pressure, ending a reign — and a coinage series — of remarkable brevity.
