| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse of the host coin displays multiple lines of Arabic script arranged in a radiating pattern across the field, bearing the full royal titulature of King Abd al-Aziz ibn Abd al-Rahman Al Saud, King of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Superimposed prominently at center is a bold Saudi countermark featuring the Arabic numeral ٦٥ (65), applied over the original legends to validate the coin for continued circulation. The countermark is deeply struck and dominates the central field, partially obscuring the underlying inscriptions. The coin presents a plain raised rim with no additional decorative border elements. |

This piece belongs to an unusual episode in Saudi monetary history: when Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud needed small-denomination coinage in the mid-1940s but lacked the immediate infrastructure to mint fresh stock, existing coins were countermarked and returned to circulation. The host coin dates to AH 1344, roughly 1925–26 — the period immediately following Ibn Saud's conquest of the Hejaz — making the gap between striking and countermarking roughly two decades.
Countermark placement and depth vary considerably across surviving examples, a predictable consequence of hand-applied stamping at low production volume.
