Additional information

Mohammad Ali Shah came to power in January 1907 and almost immediately set about dismantling the constitutional government his father Mozaffar ad-Din Shah had been pressured into accepting. The civil war that followed — the Persian Constitutional Revolution — convulsed the country through his reign until Russian-backed Cossack troops helped him suppress the Majles in June 1908. He was deposed in July 1909 when constitutionalist forces retook Tehran. This coin's entire production window falls inside that conflict, minted for a government that would not survive it.
