Ahmad Shah Qajar ascended the Peacock Throne in July 1909 at the age of eleven, installed by the constitutionalist forces who had just deposed his father Mohammad Ali Shah following a brutal royalist attempt to crush Iran's Constitutional Revolution. The quarter qiran was already a minor denomination by this point, but the new regime needed coins bearing the young shah's name to circulate quickly — political legitimacy in Iran ran partly through the coinage.
KM#1035 is known with minor die variations across the Tehran mint's output during these years. Ahmad would reign until 1925, but this early type covers only the first four years of his nominal rule, during which actual governance rested largely with the regent Azod ol-Molk.
