Cyprus came under formal British Crown Colony administration in 1925, mid-way through this coin's production run — a constitutional change that had no immediate effect on the coinage, since George V's portrait had already been serving as the issuing authority's face since the series began. The piastre denominations of this period were a direct inheritance from the Ottoman monetary system Cyprus used before annexation, retained by the British purely for practical continuity with local commercial habits.
