背面描述 Two Cape Sparrows perched on an acacia branch, rendered within a circular inner border, with the date appearing above the central motif and the denomination below. The bilingual legend, in English and Dutch (Afrikaans), is divided across the field, reading SOUTH AFRICA and ZUID AFRIKA flanking the design, with the designer's initials KG flanking the branch. A beaded outer border frames the composition.

附加信息

South Africa's farthing series of this period occupies an awkward transitional moment: the country had been a Union since 1910 but remained deeply ambivalent about its relationship with British imperial coinage conventions. These were struck at the Pretoria Mint, which had only opened in 1923 — one of the youngest sovereign mints in the Commonwealth at the time — and the early years of production showed inconsistent quality as the facility calibrated its bronze striking pressures.

The KM#12.2 distinction from the earlier 12.1 relates to modified die details introduced during this window. Mintages across the 1926–1931 run varied considerably year to year, with the 1931 issue notably scarce in any grade.
