Obverse description At centre, a quartered royal shield of arms — bearing the arms of France ancient and England quarterly — set within an ornate octilobe border. A lis ornament appears at each of the eight angles formed by the octilobe, and a small cross is positioned above the shield. The entire design is executed in the refined, delicate style characteristic of Edward III's Treaty period coinage. The encircling Latin legend runs along the outer margin of the coin.
