Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate Imperial tughra of Sultan Mahmud II, rendered in high relief with characteristic foliated scrollwork and intertwined strokes characteristic of early 19th-century Ottoman calligraphic art. The tughra is enclosed within a circular inner border, surrounded by a broad marginal legend in Arabic script reading the royal titulature. The entire design is executed in a flowing naskh-derived calligraphic style, and the milled edge is visible at the coin's periphery.
