Obverse description The obverse is entirely epigraphic, displaying a multi-line Persian poetic legend in bold Nasta'liq script divided across three registers by horizontal lines. The central field bears the minting verse invoking the name of Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha, with the mint name Tabriz (ضرب تبریز) and the regnal year 1172 AH appearing in the lower register. The inscription is struck in high relief against a flat field, characteristic of hammered Qajar gold coinage of the period. The flan edges are slightly irregular, consistent with hand-struck production. The overall design reflects the Safavid-derived epigraphic tradition maintained under early Qajar rulers.
