| Obverse description | The obverse field is entirely occupied by a multi-line Persian-Arabic legend in bold, deeply struck Nasta'liq script, divided into three horizontal registers by raised linear bands. The upper register carries a poetic invocation, the central register bears the name of the Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha, and the lower register records the mint name Tabriz and the regnal year 1175 AH. The script is bold and deeply impressed, characteristic of late Safavid-period die-cutting traditions continued under Afsharid and Zand rebel coinage. The flan is irregular, as typical of hammered gold coinage of this period and region. |
