Additional information

Karim Khan Zand never took the title of Shah, ruling instead as Vakil al-Ra'aya — regent of the people — a deliberately modest claim that reflected both political shrewdness and the fractured legitimacy of post-Safavid Iran. His Širâz mint was among the most productive of his reign, as he made the city his permanent capital and transformed it into a center of administration and commerce. The Type D classification within this series distinguishes specific calligraphic die arrangements documented by collectors working from the Album and Lecompte references.
